Maraluwa Temple - Kurunegala Sri Lanka

The history of Maraluwawa temple goes back to 2nd Century BC. It is recognized as the place where Sri Pushpadeva Thero was enlightened defeating the evil. It has provide shelter to other Arihath (enlightened) Bikkus like Maliyadeva Thero and Mahadeva Thero. It has been protected and developed by several Kings pf Sri Lanka.
It takes just 10 minute drive from Kurunegala Town. (Dambulla road -->Few meters ahead from Hiripitiya Junction) The natural tranquility of the environment is still not disturbed. The road to the temple is very narrow and crossing two vehicles may be difficult at times. (So be prepared!)
There is a natural water fountain and a pond at the top of the rock. The Chaithya, though small, is very charming. The place is very windy. One can see the entire city from the top of the rock.
Few meters from the Chaithya is the Image House and the Bodhiya. The Image House is inside a modified-natural cave. The entire temple is surrounded by huge rocks of various shapes.
In your next visit to Kurunegala dont forget to visit this lovely sacred place.
